Voliba psammoessa is een vlinder uit de familie van de grasmotten (Crambidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1908 door de Australische dokter en amateur-entomoloog Alfred Jefferis Turner (1861–1947). "New Australian Lepidoptera of the Families Noctuidae and Pyralidae." Transactions and proceedings and report of the Royal Society of South Australia, v. 32 (1908), blz. 55 Het type werd aangetroffen in Adavale, Queensland in Australië. Het epitheton psammoessa betekent "zanderig".
