Dragmaxia is een geslacht binnen de familie der Axinellidae (Kelksponzen). De wetenschappelijke naam werd voor het eerst gepubliceerd door Edward Francis Hallmann in 1916 in zijn revisie van de familie Axinellidae. "A Revision of the Genera with Microscleres included, or provisionally included, in the Family Axinellidae; with Descriptions of some Australian Species. Part ii." Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales for the year 1916 (1916-17), vol. 41, blz. 543.
Als typesoort gaf hij Spongosorites variabilis Whitelegge op.
