Thecagaster coronata is een echte libel uit de familie van de bronlibellen (Cordulegastridae). De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort werd voorgesteld als Cordulegaster coronatadoor Kenneth John Morton in een publicatie uit 1916. (1916). Some Palaearctic species of Cordulegaster.
